  • Added definition for incorporated power supply
  • Until year 2024 USB power supply shall comply with
    • Appropriate part of AS/NZS 61558 series standard or
    • AS/NZS 60950.1:2015 or
    • AS/NZS 62368.1:2017
  • After year 2024, power supply transformer shall comply with the appropriate part of the AS/NZS 61558 series of standards.
  • Output voltage of power supplies shall not exceed the specified limit under single fault conditions
  • For incorporated power supply, the heating test shall be conducted in the host product (the assembly of the electrical accessory and the incorporated power supply).
    Temperature limit of AS/NZS  3100 or the relevant end product standard shall be applicable, whichever is more unfavourable.
  • Define incorporated power supply over voltage category.
  • Single Y1 capacitor is acceptable if it has qualification approval in accordance with IEC 60384.14 -2013.
  • Incorporated power supply shall comply with AS/NZS 3100 and the relevant end product standard.

  • Modified the requirements for safety of toys incorporating optical radiation sources (Annex E), to include requirements for using the technical LED data sheet for checking compliance with the specified accessible emission limits (AEL);
  • Updated the details for measurements of the optical radiation from the toy (Annex E);
  • Introduced an informative Annex I concerning measurement methods for toys with an integrated field source generating EMF;

Regulatory Changes

Electrical Safety – Australia

NSW Gazette was updated on 2021-03-19. There are a number of minor changes due to updates in Australian Standards.
The summary of changes are as below.

  • RANGE – transition date when AS/NZS 60335.2.6:2014+A1 is replaced by AS/NZS 60335.2.6:2014+A1+A2 is extended by one year from 28 June 2021 to 2022.
  • Addition of Submersible pumps category to the list. Date of application is 2023-01-01.
  • Addition of the international standard as an option for Arc Welders with the addition of a minor Australian deviation in the specification to ensure low flammability.
  • Clarification in the definition of DC Isolator. “and includes the dedicated individual enclosure (if any),”
  • Outlet Device specification AS/NZS 3122 is modified to preclude devices that can be wired by the user.
  • removal of two year limit on hair straighteners
  • Hedge clipper addition “has one or more reciprocating blades;”
  • AS/NZS 60335.1 means AS/NZS 60335.1: 2011 +A1-4; or AS/NZS 60335.1: 2020
  • Various minor amendments removing dates of application already in effect etc.
