Amendment 1; published 28 June 2019

– Revised the “built-in” exclusion in bayonet lampholder, and Edison screw lampholder to lampholders that form part of the structural moulding of the appliance only (general purpose component lampholders incorporated in appliances will require certification)

– Revised bayonet lampholder adaptor classification to include all lamp cap types and retitled to “lampholder adaptor”

– Fluorescent lamp ballast no longer specifically includes capacitors incorporated or supplied with the ballast .

– introduces requirements for battery operated vacuum cleaners (1, 21);

– updates normal operation for vacuum cleaners with a blocked hose control (3);

– introduces requirements for ash vacuum cleaners (3, 7, 19, 22, 30);

– introduces surface temperature limits (11, figures).

AS/NZS 60335.2.14: 2017

Particular requirements for kitchen machines

Modified adoption of IEC 60335-2-14 Ed.6

– Requirements for noodle maker with a mixing function have been introduced (3.1.9.116, 11.7.118, 19.103)

– Revise cl 20.106 requirement for appliance, which have feed screw or auger, having different opening for inserting food and feed pusher

– Revise normal operation definition and test method to limit power rating from over-rated. (The appliance will be operated at rated power under normal operation if the worst recipe load or standard load power input is less than certain deviation percentage from rated power. – cl 3.1.9, 11.7)

AS/NZS 60335.2.23 : 2017

Particular requirements for skin or hair care

New edition;  Published on 30 June 2017

Modified adoption of IEC 60335-2-23 Ed.6 – deals with the safety of electric appliances for the care of skin or hair of persons or animals and intended for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.

– added hair straighteners to the list of examples covered by the standard;

– modified 7.12 to apply to appliances, and not just to hairdryers.

– added new instructions in 7.12 for hair straighteners and curling irons

– exempted fixed hairdryers and fixed hand dryers from alternative format of instructions;

– excluded detachable curler surfaces from temperature rise requirement in subclause 11.8;

– clarified in subclause 19.7 lock rotor test that the appliance shall not emit flame after the test;

– clarified method of drop test and compliance criteria in subclause 21.101;

– added requirement in 22.13 to delineate handles on curling irons and hair straighteners;

– in 22.103, added a requirement for protection against hair being pulled into hair dryer intake;

– revised subclause 24.101 to indicate that protective devices shall not be self-resetting;

– Clarification on flammable refrigerant injection method (cl 22.109)

– Clarification to accessible glass panels shattering test and additional testing for glass that is not released or dropped from its normal position when broken (Cl 22.116).

– Included wiring flexing test on incorporated ice maker (cl.23.3)

– Added requirement for testing immersion heaters that maintain a liquid at a set temperature (AZ.5.101 – AS/N ZS variation only).  This is to ensure that there is an adequate test for Sous-Vide appliances sold separately without a vessel (the intention is that these appliances are tested as “portable immersion heaters” for extended operating durations).

-Added new abnormal test for drives with rated operating time (19.101)

-Added 20.104.5 to provide an additional test for rolling grills  to address the risk of being lifted

-Added/clarify the software requirement if safety rely on the software. (22.46, Annex R)

Regulatory Changes

NSW Fair Trading issued the following exemption notices (also attached);

– Vacuum cleaners and water suction cleaning appliances complying with  AS/NZS 60335.2.2:2010+A1-A4 (which expires on 2020-06-29) may continue to be sold in NSW until 2021-01-31.

– Dishwashers complying with AS/NZS 60335.2.5:2014+A1 only (which expired on 2018-11-30) may continue to be sold in NSW until 2021-01-31.

– Household kitchen machines complying with AS/NZS 60335.2.14:2013 that also comply with AS/NZS 60335.2.14:2017 except for clause 10 and 11 may continue to be sold in NSW until 2021-06-30.

– Refrigerating appliances complying with AS/NZS 60335.2.24:2010+A1 only (which expires on 2020-06-29) may continue to be sold in NSW until 2021-01-31.
